This hiking holiday in Holmsland is designed for those seeking freedom and presence. You set the pace while we take care of route planning, accommodation, and the practical details. This allows you to immerse yourself in the landscape and enjoy the journey without worries.
The route stretches from Houvig in the north to Årgab in the south and is divided into daily stages of between 7 and 20 kilometers. Along the way, you stay comfortably at selected hotels in Ringkøbing and Hvide Sande – an ideal combination of an active holiday and well-deserved comfort.

DAY 1: HOUVIG - RINGKØBING

The first day of hiking begins at Vestkystens Farm Shop in Houvig – an atmospheric place with specialties for every taste. From here, you set out on a beautiful stage through one of Holmsland’s most captivating areas, where dunes, heathland, and the presence of the sea create the setting for the day’s experiences.
The route takes you through Houvig Dune Plantation, where the landscape in several places opens up toward the North Sea between the dunes. Here, you experience the raw nature of West Jutland up close – wind, light, and wide open spaces in constant interplay.
Along the way, you pass bunkers from World War II and move through peaceful landscapes rich in birdlife and vast open expanses. The route continues to Søndervig – a lively coastal area with great restaurants, exciting experiences, and a distinctive holiday atmosphere.
The pace is relaxed, and there is plenty of time for breaks along the way – perhaps on top of a dune or with a view of the sea. In the afternoon, you arrive at Fjordgaarden in Ringkøbing, a welcoming hotel with its own spa, restaurant, and all the facilities for relaxation after the day’s hike.
DAY 2: RINGKØBING - HVIDE SANDE

After a wonderful overnight stay at Fjordgaarden in Ringkøbing, the hike continues along the beautiful path toward Bagges Dæmning – Denmark’s longest continuous wooden boardwalk. If you have not yet experienced everything Søndervig has to offer, there is an opportunity for a small detour into the atmospheric coastal town before the day’s stage truly begins.
When you are ready to continue hiking, a day filled with great nature experiences awaits. The route takes you through the unique landscape between Søndervig and Hvide Sande, where dunes, marram grass, and open expanses dominate, and where the sea and fjord nearly meet in several places. Along the way, you pass Lyngvig Lighthouse – known from the TV 2 program Hvide Sande – which rises prominently in the landscape and offers wide views over both the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord. It is an area where the West Jutland light, the wind, and the silence come together in perfect harmony.
After a day full of experiences in your hiking boots, you arrive in Hvide Sande. Here, you stay at a centrally located hotel with easy access to the harbor, great restaurants, and charming shops.
Here, you can put your feet up and enjoy the end of the tour’s longest stage of approximately 20 kilometers – with tired legs, fresh sea air, and a sense of satisfaction that only comes after a day in nature.
DAY 3: HVIDE SANDE - ÅRGAB
- Distance: 5 kilometers
- Pick-up point: Dancamps Nordsø
The final part of the hiking holiday takes you through one of the West Coast’s most open and contrasting landscapes. Between Hvide Sande and Årgab, you walk across a narrow isthmus, where the roar of the North Sea on one side and the calm surface of Ringkøbing Fjord on the other create a truly special atmosphere. The area is characterized by high dunes, well-defined trails, old sea markers, and a vibrant coastal environment, where surfers and beachgoers in particular leave their mark on the horizon.
The hiking day itself is manageable, with a stretch of around 7 kilometers, but there are many opportunities to extend the route. Small paths lead both toward the fjord and all the way to the coast, where the view constantly changes and nature reveals itself from new angles. There is room here for immersion, breaks, and spontaneous detours – depending on your mood and energy.
The tour concludes in Årgab, a small and atmospheric holiday area, where the hiking adventure ends at Dancamps Nordsø. Here, you will find good facilities such as a swimming pool, sauna, and mini golf, as well as a café and shop if your energy levels need a final boost.
At 2:45 PM, you will be picked up by our minibus and driven back to the starting point at Vestkystens Farm Shop in Houvig. The transport takes approximately 35 minutes, and along the way, you can sit back, enjoy a refreshment, and let the day’s impressions settle.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL
Between Houvig and Årgab, a narrow and beautiful stretch of land extends where the sea and fjord almost meet. The terrain is predominantly easy to walk on, but the soft dunes create natural variations that offer both views and shelter from the wind.
THE TERRAIN
The stretch between Houvig and Årgab offers great variation in both terrain and surroundings. The hike takes you through wide sandy beaches, open dune landscapes, and plantations, where the trails wind between pine trees and marram grass.

A good start to the day is important, which is why breakfast at the hotels is included in your hiking holiday. Lunch and dinner are up to you along the way, giving you the freedom to eat where and when it suits you best. To make it easy, we have prepared a food guide that gives you an overview of the best places to eat along the route from Houvig to Årgab.
